Human Ice Cubes!?!

If you've been following Celebrity Big Brother, you might have seen the task where they had to come up with a question.

Cleo wanted to know if Stan Laurel was Clint Eastwood's father. Jack wanted to know why he had nipples. But it was Jade wanting to know more about Eskimos that really made me laugh. Only Jade could worry about Eskimos turning into human ice cubes! She had absolutely no knowledge about them at all, except that they lived in igloos. She wanted to know the most basic and down to earth things, like how they could be buried if there is no earth and if they would become extinct (as if they were some strange species of animal).

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Jade's, but do I find her curiosity truly amazing and very refreshing. Unlike so many of us who are afraid to show our ignorance, she is just so keen to learn about all manner of things, that she justs asks question after question after question. Very much like a young child.

She may not have had the benefit of a great education, but she is certainly making up for lost time with her insatiable curiosity. I think she once said that it's only stupid people who don't ask questions and she's quite right.

While in the diary room, she actually issued a public invitation to any Eskimos out there who would meet up with her to tell her all about how they live!

BBC Watchdog's Dirty Allergy Trick

I received one of Patrick Holford's 100% for Health emails this morning and boy was he hopping made. The BBC's Watchdog programme totally misrepresented the slightly differing results of the 2 identical blood samples submitted for the IgG Food Intolerance or York Test.  See below for Patrick's email in full.

I can't say I blame him. He has worked so hard and helped so many people with their allergy problems, that to see the reputation of the York test tarnished in that way is just too much. It is really just a case of extremely shoddy and lazy reporting. That's the problem when you get reporters that are either totally ignorant of the subject or have a vested interest.

I've seen this happen a number of times before. There was that programme on spiritual healing where the doctor / scientist decided to go down the avenue of the 'placebo' effect. They say they want proof that it works, but then when you produce it they just dismiss it, or say they need more. Or else they don't even bother to look for the proof. She could have contacted the Reiki Federation for details of clinical trials. But no, instead of making a programme about spiritual healing she made one about the placebo effect, that we've all known about for ages! It's just poor research.

But we did hope for better from the BBC and Watchdog. I didn't see the programme myself, so if you saw it, let me know what you think.

The Dangers Of Talking Too Much

If we weren't aware of the dangers of talking too much, we are now!

The Big Brother house has certainly highlighted the issue. Jackiey, Leo and Jade, just don't seem to stop to draw breath, let alone engage brain.

And if ever there was a perfect example of a situation spiralling out of control, it was over the issue of Ken and the crackers! Completely crackers in fact.

There's no doubt about the fact that Jade has a really kind heart, it was the thought of the 'servants' going without food that kicked off the argument. (Food or absence of it, is obviously very important to her.) But if she had just stopped to think before she spoke for once, the whole situation, which ended with Ken Russell leaving the Big Brother House, could have been averted.
